Nothing beats painting 'en plein air' (that's 'outdoors' for us plebs) so I'll be hosting this class in the beautiful countryside on the edge of Maidenhead.

A short walk from the meeting point, we'll plonk ourselves down in a gateway with my camping chairs and painting equipment, sit back ...

...and relax.

  • Inhale the intoxicating fragrance of Autumn's mellow fruitfulness;

  • Revel in the season's sensational colours;

  • Hark!  The birds are going berserk in the bushes. They're drowning out the gentle swooshing of our brushstrokes, the feathery blighters!

Discover the joy of blending blurry blues for the horizon and mixing dark hues for faraway trees. Experiment with the ochres and umbers (that professional artists are always banging on about) to recreate the beauty of fields and farmlands. Then learn how to create depth and distance with grasses, seedheads or a spot of rustic fencing in the foreground.

This class will give you the confidence to paint outdoors, wherever and whenever you want to pass time restfully and usefully. Whether you're on holiday, on the touchline, or on a slow train stuck at a signal: be inspired to reach for your sketchbook and draw what you see.

I'll bring camping chairs and paint equipment. Just bring your lovely self, a bottle of water and any snacks you fancy.
