You don’t need to be ‘good at art’ to enjoy drawing and painting.

Art isn’t an exam. There are no grades, no gold stars, and definitely no “you must be this talented to enter” criteria. You just need to book a ticket, come along to one of my art classes and let the magic happen.

People say, “Oh, I’d love to come to your classes, but I can’t draw.” My reply? Perfect. You’re my favourite kind of person. Because when there’s no pressure to be “good,” we really start to enjoy ourselves.

Often people add a booking message to pre-warn me something like “I’ve got the brush skills of a two year old.” After the class they tell me they’re shopping for a frame for their masterpiece. Cue the warm fuzzies!

It kills me to hear that people who fancy joining an Art Social event choose not to because they think they’re not good enough. The last thing I want is a load of classically trained watercolourists on my hands! I get a massive buzz from lolling in a gateway in the sunshine with people who appreciate the view and want to learn how to capture it on paper rather than on their iPhone. And who’re inspired enough to have another go in their own time.

So if you’re thinking, “I can’t do that,” think again. Just come along, follow my lead and let your creative side out for a play.

Because “talent” is overrated. Joy isn’t.
